My birthday week

Here is one of my new neighbors, just moved in today. He / she lives above my door about 3 feet over. I hope he's not the one who's been waking me up some mornings.
At the bazaar looking over some bling in the open air market. He make me good price!

Remember the old guys that sat in the balconey of the Muppet show? Well we have one of those guy here. Ltc. O'Leary the SECFOR PA. He works with us in the TMC (Troop Medical Center). Someone made the sign for him. They were threatening to put an AED (automated external defibrilator) there just incase anyone finds him slumped over.

My friend Bill gets promoted to Major. He is the one on the right. Major Deckert, the 141 XO (Executive Officer), is awarding him his rank.

What a week. Just found out I'm too old to be drafted anymore. What a birthday! Spent most of it doing paperwork. Fun stuff. My closest co-workers knew and wished me a happy birthday. After dinner I had cake and ice cream. It wasn't for me, we have it available most nights. I just decided to have some.
Just wanted to say thank you for all the notes, and cards y'all have sent me for my birthday. I have read each one and love them. My wife and kids sent some gifts. One of the gifts was some glow-in-the-dark stars. I put some of them up today in my room, it's silly but fun. Tried to take a picture, but too dark.
This week has been busy, I don't know with what but it's been busy. I get to the end of each day and I'm exasusted. We've continued to workout - which is good because of the cake and ice cream. I'm slowly getting my projects done. I need to speed up the process because I won't be here that much longer, seems like it though. I've decided that the new shiny penny feeling has worn off.
The first group of Oregon soldiers have headed home. It was great to see them go, but also sad knowing that others are still here. So many just want to get home and see their families and friends. Others are arriving all the time to take their place. Everybody is teaching their replacements how to do their jobs and the important little things that make the job easier. The night the first group left, the area they stayed was rocketed. Praise the Lord no one was hurt. Just reminds you that you must always be aware of your surrounding and not let up until we are back on the ground in the U.S.
Please keep all the soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines doing there jobs (willingly) in your prayers. The people in Congress will play their games to get elected, but I have met the people that actually do the country's will. I'm pretty safe here, but others place there lives on the line daily to protect their country and hopefully enable this country to stand on its own.
Thank you all for all your support and faithful prayers for me and my family,
mike

First let me say Happy Late Birthday! Sounds like you had a good birthday. Cake & ice cream always help with that...
Just finished read your blog. Great trip since all made it to and back alive and well. I pray for all the service men and women on a daily basis. My niece will be deployed again sometime this summer. Just not sure where or the date yet. She is in Texas doing more training.
Your little pt with the head wound hope he is doing well. Looks like anyother loving family. Pray you can help his dad land a job on the base. We love and miss you at work. Hope the packages arrive soon. They were shipped out to you. See you back in wound clinic
Maggie... Stay Safe.

Great blog this week, my love!
Thanks for the pictures - it's good to see your smile! Make sure you come home with some of that "bling" for your adoring wife!
I'm happy the stars are silly and fun - I wonder how the next "tenant" will like them?!?
I too am praising our Lord for the blessing of no one being hurt in that rocket attack. You and all military personnel continue to be in my daily prayers for well being there and a safe return. Thank you again for your sacrifice and service to this country!
Can you believe that we are past the half way point? Yea! We are on the downhill side and looking forward to your homecoming.
Stay safe and know that you are missed and loved every moment of every day, Chris

Mike,
Belated birthday wishes! I've been remiss in checking out your blog for the last couple of weeks. I had a couple of days off to help my niece celebrate her 16th birthday on May 5th and got sidetracked buying all the groceries for a BBQ and a fancy cake for her (there went my paycheck, made the mistake of going to Costco and got the jumbo size of everything). That was my gift to her, though, and she was thrilled. I hope you had a great birthday under the circumstances, and we'll have to honor you properly when you return to Oregon. By the way, your carpentry skills are to be commended. Do you want a side job when you get back? My backyard deck could use some improvements. I'll even help, I'm a good worker. I have to say I have really enjoyed the pictures you have posted on your blog. I don't see myself going to Afghanistan anytime soon (unless you need a transcriptionist there), so the pictures are very interesting to me. The desolation is truly beautiful in its own way. I was impressed with the pictures of the "hike" - pretty cool. Thanks again for taking care of the folks over there and just know that we are thinking about you and awaiting your safe return (as well as the safe return of the rest of your "peeps." Thanks for all you are doing.
Andrea
P.S. - You forgot to do a dictation before you left, so I'll have the chart waiting for you when you get back! :) LOL
